21-04-2008 The Brazilian delegation from the food and beverage industry visiting Singapore for the Food and Hotel Asia 2008 was hosted for dinner by Mr. Tommy Lam at Café de Amigo. The "night theme" was...Brazilian wines. Yes, Brazil, the land of soccer and carnival produces good quality wines, which are already available at at selected Singaporean outlets. The guests included Ms. Andreia Gentilini Milan, Export manager of the Brazilian wine programme "Wines from Brazil", Mr. Carlos Nogueira, International Manager of Miolo Wine Group, Mr. Alzir Cogorni, owner of Mena Kaho winery in Bento Gonçalves (Southern Brazil), Mr. André Fernandes, from the Brazilian Fruit Institute, Mr. Gopi Nathan S.B., importer of Brazilian wines at Garnet & Peridot, and Tania Meulenberg from the Embassy of Brazil. 08-04-2008 To celebrate the International Friendship Day, Kong Hwa Primary School has selected Capoeira - a Brazilian martial-art, sport and dance - to showcase that friendship can be promoted through sports. Students learnt from the performance and demonstration that martial art is not about fighting, but making friends. As Capoeira is a non-contact martial art and art form, it encourages students to respect and co-operate with each other, in order to understand the movements and sequences. As Capoeira cannot be played alone, it encourages team spirit, discipline and patience to achieve greater understanding and friendship among everyone involved. The Association of Capoeira Argola de Ouro's programmes - led by Master Ousado - are endorsed by the National Arts Council's Art Education Programme (AEP).

Minister of External Relations of Brazil, Ambassador Celso Amorim, to Singapore, on 29 February, 2008. Minister Amorim was accompanied by a Brazilian business delegation representative of major sectors of the Brazilian economy, such as construction and enginneering, biofuels, oil and gas, petrochemicals, manufactures, food industry, mining, regional aircrafts, banking, agribusiness and real estate. Companies represented included Petrobras, Embraer, Vale, Andrade Gutierrez, Odebrecht, ACRIMAT and Cuiabá Mayorship, Frialto, Banco do Brasil, Clube dos Treze, Cyrela Brazil Realy, Embraco, Sadia and Veirano Advogados. On the occasion, an MOU was signed between the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and the Federation of Inudstries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP).
Take a virtual tour of the exhibition Brazilian Design Perspectives, which was part of the 2007 Singapore Design Festival (City Hall, 28 Nov.-8 Dec, 2007). The exhibition brought to Singaporean audiences glimpses of the best of Brazilian modern and contemporary architecture and design. Inspired by Oscar Niemeyer's 100th Anniversary, the three-in-one exhibition includes panoramic images of Niemeyer's acclaimed projects in Brasília; contemporary works of Brasília-based architects, such as João Filgueiras Lima and Sérgio Parada, along with award-winning projects by young architects and displays of renowned designers Maurício Azeredo (furniture) and Carla Amorim (jewelry); the third part of the exhibition showcases works of Hans Donner, the Austrian graphic designer who revolutionized TV design in the last three decades through his works for TV Globo, the fourth largest TV network in the world.
Mrs. Luisa Goyena Soares and volunteers from the Brazilian Community in Singapore set up a booth at the Children's Charities Association Annual Christmas Fair, held on December 3 at Ngee Ann City's Civic Plaza. They helped raise funds for the charities by selling typical Brazilian delicacies and goods. They were honoured by the visit of Mrs. S R Nathan.
