 Cultural Exchanges

Brazil and Singapore have been historically little known to each other, barring football. But this is changing fast. In the last few years, important Brazilian artists have performed in Singapore, including musicians such as Gilberto Gil, Bebel Gilberto, Ana Caram, Chico César and Cibelle. Brazilian guitarists Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Fabio Zanon and Marco Pereira have taken part in the last three Singapore International Guitar Festivals, which take place every December. In 2006, the Brazilian modern dance ensemble “Grupo Corpo” perfomed at the Esplanade Theatre. In 2004 and 2005, Petrobras sponsored a Brazilian Film Festival.

Singapore has taken part since 1998 in the Brazilian Arts Biennial, in São Paulo.

The Embassy has actively trying to promote more cultural manifestations of Brazil in Singapore and welcome partners.

For more information on Brazilian culture in Singapore, such as capoeira and music, visit the Brazil in Singapore or the Events section of the website.
