Bossacucanova in Singapore |

|
Dubbed “one of Rio’s coolest bands” drum n’ bossa pioneers Bossacucanova – or “bossa with a new mind” – remain unique for putting bossa first and electronica second. DJ Marcelinho DaLua, bassist Márcio Menescal and keyboard player Alexandre Moreira burst onto the international music scene in 1999 with their milestone debut Revisited Classics (Six Degrees), a collection of classic bossa songs given new vigour through the application of funky breakbeats and adventurous mixology. Their sophomore effort Brasilidade on which they paired up with first generation bossanovista Roberto Menescal was nominated for a Latin Grammy award in 2002 for Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album. Their other albums Ipanema Lounge, Uma Batida Diferente and the most recent, Ao Vivo to celebrate 50 years of bossa nova, are full of party-ready gems, beat-heavy crackle as well as gentle jazz.
In a case of the wheel turning full circle, Bossacucanova were invited to perform at the famed 2008 concert on Rio’s Ipanema beach to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the bossa nova, starring pioneers of the genre, and which attracted 80,000 fans.In Singapore, the trio will be joined by flame-haired regular singer Cris Delanno, Dado Brother on percussion and Flavio Mendes on guitar. The concert will be at Esplanade Concert Hall, on Wednesday, the 9th of September.
