29-02-2008 The Minister of External Relations of Brazil, Ambassador Celso Amorim, made an official visit to Singapore from February 28 to March 1, at the invitation of his counterpart, Minister George Yeo. Minister Amorim met Prime-Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana. He also called on Minister for Trade and Industry, Lim Hng Kiang, and Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo. Minister Amorim was accompanied by a Brazilian business delegation representative of major sectors of the Brazilian economy, such as construction and enginneering, biofuels, oil and gas, petrochemicals, manufactures, food industry, mining, regional aircrafts, banking, agribusiness and real estate. Companies represented included Petrobras, Embraer, Vale, Andrade Gutierrez, Odebrecht, ACRIMAT and Cuiabá Mayorship, Frialto, Banco do Brasil, Clube dos Treze, Cyrela Brazil Realy, Embraco, Sadia and Veirano Advogados. On February 29, Minister Amorim and Minister Lim opened the Seminar "Brazil: The Next Leap", organized by the Singapore Business Federation and the Embassy of Brasil. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the SBF and FIESP, the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo. Besides attending the seminar, which offered a great opportunity for networking, the business delegation called on Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry Peter Ong and visited PSA. Prime-Minister Lee is scheduled to visit Brazil in November 2008, at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
