50 Years of Bossa Nova - The All-Stars Concert comes to Singapore |
|
On September 13, at the Esplanade Concert Hall (7:30pm), three generations of bossa nova stars will make Singapore swing to the much-loved style of Brazilian music that has seduced the world for 50 years. Singapore is one of just four global cities to host such an all-stars concert to celebrate this anniversary, together with Rio, London and Sydney. The line up includes bossa greats who have composed the genre’s anthems including Joăo Donato, whose piano playing inspired the bossa rhythm; Roberto Menescal, composer of O Barquinho, who performed in the first ever concert billed as ‘bossa nova;’ singer and guitarist Wanda Sá; Marcos Valle, composer of So Nice - Summer Samba, probably the best known bossa song after The Girl from Ipanema; and Vinicius Cantuária whose breakthrough album Sol Na Cara paved the way for the nu bossa movement. Let the masters of bossa from Rio de Janeiro take you on a journey through the evolution of a genre of music that sang of “the beach, sublime physical beauty and the unbearable lightness of being Brazilian.”
